Washers and dryers are essential tools in modern-day life. If you're fortunate enough to have hookups for these appliances in your house, they may not always be located in an ideal spot. When your washer and dryer are in an exposed area, hiding them can improve the appearance of the room. Whether you choose to complete a remodeling project or are looking for a quick fix, there's a solution.

Use tall Japanese shoji screens to hide the washer and dryer. These screens are lightweight and easy to move when you need to use the machines. A standard shoji screen has three panels, but because of the depth and length of a washer and dryer, using multiple screens may be necessary.

Construct a custom privacy screen for your washer and dryer using old shutters or other tall, narrow pieces of wood or metal. Measure the length of the washer and dryer and plan the screen based on this measurement. Allow extra length for the screen to fold around the sides. Line the screen panels up in a row and install two to three sets of hinges between each one. Place furniture glides on each corner to prevent scuff marks.

Install a half wall or full wall on either side of the washer and dryer. Paint the walls to match the existing walls and install a door wide enough to reveal the appliances when open. Half walls make a room feel more open while still concealing the machines. Full walls form a separate laundry closet.
